Started with a shared
notebook. Still keeps one.
Meridian & Co. was founded by two former
cartographers who grew tired of watching travel get
easier to sell and harder to feel. Here’s how the
notebook became eleven routes on four continents.
How it started
Two cartographers
one unfinished map.
In 2013, Amara Voss and Dev Rathi were finishing a mapping contract in the Zanskar valley when they realised the villages they’d walked through weren’t on any tour operator’s list — not because they were hard to reach, but because nobody had bothered writing the route down properly.
They started leading small trips themselves the following season. No brochure, no sales team — just a printed route sheet and a WhatsApp group. Word travelled faster than they expected.
By 2015, Meridian & Co. was a registered company with three routes. It has grown by roughly one new route a year since, each one walked and re-walked by a founder before it’s ever offered to a traveller.
